2010: MARCH-APRIL - 'You wanna fuck with me? Okay. You little co-co-roaches'

So begins my epic journey of movie wankery. My goal is simple – watch movies, be entertained. These blogs are to help me remember. If I do spend as many minutes watching screens as I wish I could – I AM going to forget things. I live my life with aims to not be shown up by movie nerds thusly proving my human inadequacy ONCE AGAIN. WATCH OUT, CUTE RAT!

THE STATS:

7 Crime-based movies.

1 Romantic Vampire-based 'movie'.

TOP FIVE FAVOURITES:

5. Donnie Brasco - 'Forget about it'.

4. Do The Right Thing - 'If Mike Tyson beats my ass in a dream, he better wake up and apologize'.

3. Casino - 'When you love someone, you've gotta trust them. There's no other way. You've got to give them the key to everything that's yours. Otherwise, what's the point?'.

2. Dog Day Afternoon - 'Attica! Attica! Attica!'

1. Scarface - 'You wanna fuck with me? Okay. You wanna play rough? Okay... Say hello to my little friend!'

BEST SURPRISE:

I never know whether something Spike Lee makes or says will throw me off guard and overly confused me. And I never know if I'm just not going to understand something that is so far based in race relations. But, after watching Do The Right Thing, I found myself thinking about it for a week after which is always a sign that I've loved a movie. The relations in the movie, at first I thought, were really base - but towards the end of the movie it really gets into more conflicting ideas. Love the thought challenge. If I found someone less than enthused about watching a race-conflict based movie I'd say - don't be. Try it. I think that it may have been a nice intro to a genre of movie I should get more familiar with. Great dialogue, great visuals. Although, if I have to hear 'Fight the Power' one more time, I'm going to kill someone.

LETDOWN:

I hoped that this choice was going to be a simple outright, no-contest vote for Twilight - given the overall horribleness of the dialogue, plot and pasty white skin of the population of Forks. However, I EXPECTED it to be bad. And so when it was - I laughed. Lots. However, when I came away with a less than Academy Award winning feeling of inspiration after watching The Hurt Locker, I became quite embittered. I must have missed something that all the critics had seemingly identified as the inherent wonderfulness and awesome that is The Hurt Locker. I was bored. Fell asleep halfway through. There were a few nice visuals. But for the build up ... it's definitely not a movie I will be seeing again.

SCREENSHOTS OF AWESOME:

'Being John Malkovich'

'Dog Day Afternoon'
Shiny, happy vampires - 'Twilight'
